Obama, “Son of the Soil”

November 7th, 2008  |  Published in Photography

I was just browsing for some news before heading to bed, and found some more Obama celebration photos from across the World. Here are some that I found very meaningful personally—specially the first one below:

In the western village of Kogelo, where the president-elect’s late father was born, Obama’s step-grandmother and other relatives poured out of their rural homestead to celebrate a man seen by many Kenyans as a ’son of the soil’.

With hula dancers, ecstatic chanting and some rock ‘n’ roll, a Japanese town named Obama rejoiced as its accidental namesake was elected president of the United States.

At Obama’s former school in Jakarta, Indonesia, children celebrated the election result.

President Obama and News Headlines Online

November 5th, 2008  |  Published in Events

With the news of President-elect Barack Obama winning sweeping the World, most of the big news sites out on the net have updated their homepages. Mentioning that, it is still surprising to me (at the time of this posting) that WhiteHouse.gov still has no mention of “Obama” ANYWHERE?!?!

Anyways, here are the ones that I really dug below. You may click on the thumbnails to view a larger version.

Went Hunting for Halloween

November 1st, 2008  |  Published in Photography

Went Hunting for Halloween, originally uploaded by stechico.

A quick getup put together by rolling to the neighborhood Goodwill store.

Safari/explorer/hunter-looking type of hat… $2.
Khaki safari/explorer/hunter-looking type of jacket… $8.
Halloween on a Friday night… Priceless.

I didn’t have enough time to find a wig, or fill in the sideburns. Would’ve added more to it if any. Anyways, I hope everyone had a blast and got home safe. Good times!

PS. Here’s what I hunted.

Though quite new in Los Angeles, Johnny Cupcakes (JC) have been well known and received way before opening their first ever store in Boston. Anyways, to keep things short (since people are already in line), JC is having a third series release of its very limited collection, “There’s Something in the Cupcake Mix” The release “consists of 4 extremely limited, exclusive t-shirts that are released once a year, during the Halloween season. This year they will even be more scarce due to the splitting between both locations, Boston and LA.”

A few new details about series #3:
  • Designs have been turned up a notch + bringing some ghoulish, familiar faces to the kitchen table.
  • Better box design + construction.
  • More hidden gems.
  • These will NOT be available online, only in Boston + LA.
  • 4 designs. 1 colorway of each. 150 total of each. Split between both Boston + LA = 75 pieces per design. Split between sizes and genders = only a handful to a dozen of each size, per gender, per design.
  • Every t-shirt will have a silk screened number on the back, to guarantee authenticity.
  • Each box will be hand numbered.
  • Each box will be equipped with different hidden trivia pertaining to the limited monster inside.
  • A vanilla frosting scented scratch ‘n’ sniff sticker will be on top of each box.
  • When opening up your sealed box, you will have to dust real sprinkles off of your sealed t-shirt.
  • We are encouraging every customer to DRESS UP in your best costumes.
  • Real cupcakes, beverages and some pizza pizza will be given out the night of.
  • A special limited, dated shirt will be given out to the first 100 or so customers.
