ABC Refuse to Run Repower American Ad

October 8th, 2008  |  Published in TV  |  Comment

After the presidential debate last night, most high profile channels ran ads from oil companies (ABC had Chevron, CBS had Exxon, and CNN had the coal lobby). Noticing that there’s something a bit off, the We Campaign[1] is flagging ABC to reconsider their actions for refusing to run the Repower America ad (below) last week[2].

ABC recently refused to run our Repower America ad, even though they run ads from oil companies that mislead the American people about the role fossil fuels play in the climate crisis.

They recently started a petition and sent out a message earlier this afternoon:

Our Repower America ad has a clear and simple message—that massive spending by oil and coal companies on advertising is a key reason our nation hasn’t switched to clean and renewable sources for our energy.

The petition is to “send a message to ABC and tell them to air the Repower America ad this Friday on 20/20.” The We Campaign is working on getting 100,000 public comments to ABC before 20/20’s next airing. They are currently (at the time of this posting) near 25,000 mark.

You can get more info, sign the petition, view the ad, etc. by going to: wecansolveit.org/ABC

  1. The We Campaign is a project of The Alliance for Climate Protection—a nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. The goal of the Alliance is to build a movement that creates the political will to solve the climate crisis—in part through repowering America with 100 percent of its electricity from clean energy sources within 10 years. Our economy, national security, and climate can’t afford to wait. []

Congrats Sir Al Gore!

A Message About the Climate Crisis by Al Gore

July 12th, 2007  |  Published in Uncategorized

If you aren’t aware about what’s going on with our planet, our home… our Earth, please watch documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Meanwhile, Live Earth was this past weekend. It kicked off a whole campaign to save our planet, the place we live and breath in.

Let’s all do our part. It ain’t that hard.

PS. I know I own a Pilot. I don’t drive a lot (i.e. 3k in 6 months) and take public transportation to work. Therefore, I consider it like I’m driving a Hybrid.

Here’s Al Gore’s message this morning:

Dear Friend,

Thank you! Because of your hard work, millions of personal commitments have been made via the Web and SMS in 178 countries and 35 territories around the world. And our concert was not limited to 7 venues, but instead took place at parties and events in more than 10,000 homes and communities.

A decade from now, when people look back on Live Earth, what they will remember isn’t what happened during the show — instead my hope is they remember what happened after. More than 2 billion of us joined together on 7.7.07 and with one voice demanded an end to the climate crisis. We now have the responsibility to carry this movement forward and force our leaders to take action.

We need to take the first step today and make sure every single person possible joins us. That’s why, right now, I need you to email five of your friends. Ask them to sign the Live Earth Pledge by visiting:

All of the actions we take from here on out to solve the climate crisis will be based on a simple premise: our home, Earth, is in danger. We don’t risk destroying the planet, but instead risk making it inhospitable for human beings.

We have put so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that we have changed the heat balance between Earth and the Sun. And if we don’t stop soon, the average temperature will increase to levels that will end the favorable climate balance on which our civilization depends.

The world must come together and direct our governments to take on a global challenge. Our leadership is a precondition for success.

We need to demonstrate that we have reached the tipping point where political will demands our representatives take action to solve the climate crisis. That’s why it’s so vital that millions of people sign the Live Earth Pledge.

The climate crisis offers us the chance to experience what few generations in history have had the privilege of experiencing: a mission; a compelling moral purpose; a shared cause; and the thrill of being forced by circumstances to put aside the pettiness and conflict of politics and to embrace a genuine moral and spiritual challenge.

Please email five of your friends right now. Ask them to join us in this cause and sign the Live Earth Pledge today by visiting:

Our work begins now.

Thank you,

Al Gore
